Art Education as a Practice of Care, Thinking, and Connection.

A colorful wall display of various patterned tiles arranged in a grid, featuring geometric and floral designs in red, blue, orange, pink, and green colors.

Over the past several years teaching, I’ve come to understand art education not simply as skill-building or creative expression, but as a deeply relational and cognitive practice.

Art classrooms are often where students first learn how to sit with uncertainty, make meaning, attend to others, and understand themselves as thinkers and makers. These are not “extra” skills, they are foundational.

I want to shift this space to reflect more meaningfully on art education as a form of care-based, process-oriented learning, and about why art matters across disciplines, not just within the arts. I will be sharing reflections from teaching, research-informed ideas, and observations from the classroom and studio experiences.

If you’re interested in education, pedagogy, creativity, or how learning can support the whole person, you’re very welcome here.

A little about me.

I am an art educator and multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, education, and relational pedagogy. My teaching and research explore how art education can support cognitive, emotional, and relational development across learning contexts.

I hold a a DEC in Creative Arts, , AEC in Graphic Design, a B.A. in Art History and I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Art Education. My graduate research focuses on care-based, process-oriented pedagogies that prioritize relational learning, reflection, and creative inquiry over product-driven outcomes.

Drawing from my experience teaching children, adolescents, and adults, I examine how art classrooms can function as spaces for attention, meaning-making, and connection. Through teaching, writing, and studio practice, I advocate for art education as a vital component of holistic learning—one that fosters creativity, empathy, and critical thinking across disciplines and throughout life.
